Who Are The BeatlesThey became known as "The Fab Four" , John, Paul, George & Ringo, four lads from Liverpool that shook the world! It was John Lennon who was instrumental in forming The Beatles. He met Paul McCartney at a local Liverpool garden fete which was an annual event near his home, Mendips in the suburb of Woolton. This was a totally different background to the surroundings that Ringo Starr and George Harrison grew up in. The Beatles put Liverpool on the Musical Map, from their journey in the early days of Skiffle to Psychedelia to solo to supergroups they created dozens of masterpieces that are forever here to stay and not surprisingly, Liverpool has become the prime destination of Beatles fans old and new. After the split each of the Beatles found their own fame: Paul McCartney: Had huge success with his group "Wings" who enjoyed many hits with his wife, Lynda performing alongside him, as well as her own success in a range of healthy, vegetarian food products. So successful was Paul McCartney that his country knighted him and he is now known as Sir Paul McCartney who continues his success as a solo artist. John Lennon: Also enjoyed a string of hits following the break up. After taking a career break from 1977 to raise his son Sean, Lennon reemerged in 1980 with a comeback album, Double Fantasy, but was murdered less than a month after its release. The album won the 1981 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and is Lennon's best-selling studio album at three million shipments in the US. Lennon's album sales in the US stood at 14 million units. In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Briton's voted Lennon eighth. George Harrison: Following the band's breakup, he had a successful career as a solo artist and later as part of the Traveling Wilburys, and also as a film and record producer. George Harrison is listed number 21 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 100 Best Guitarists of All Time". Ringo Starr: After The Beatles' break-up in 1970, Ringo Starr achieved solo musical success with several singles and albums, and recorded with each of his fellow ex-Beatles as they too developed their post-Beatle musical careers. He has also been featured in a number of TV documentaries, hosted TV shows, and narrated the children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. He currently tours with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. |
